I like how Eric, through this whole ordeal, doesn’t seem to be getting any enjoyment out of this. All of the other vampires seem to get quite excited. Even Pam seems excited. But, Eric…outside of his fangs, his reaction is minimal. I get the feeling that this would not have been his choice of punishment. A trace of amnesia Eric, perhaps?
This was another glimpse of real Eric, for sure. I love how show gave the hints, without revealing much. Eric at this entire “tribunal” is a decent guy through and through. He vouched for Bill in front of the Magister — something that the audience didn’t expect him to do at the time — and he appeared the only one not enjoying this at all. He was troubled.
It is clear that he wasn’t as “turned on” as the rest of the vampires but I do see a hint of it, ever so subtle but I see it. He has the same look he had during the Scratches episode when Sookie was bleeding and laying half naked at Fangtasia. Albeit the look here is a bit toned down but definitely the same look to me.
I think he looks disturbed and ambiguous. If Alexander Skarsgard and the makers of True Blood wanted us to know that Eric was turned on, there would be no doubt in our minds about it. He’s a good actor, and they wouldn’t settle for such an ambiguous take. It’s not obvious that he’s turned on. And, in that scene where Sookie is bleeding, context tells us more about his feelings, but even then, he looks like he’s processing his sensations — not unambiguously turned on. In my opinion, of course.
Yes, I value your opinion and agree with you. It took me while to finally come to my own conclusion about this scene; is he turned on? why isnt he physically expressing more emotions so that we the audience could understand his feeling a little more here? So, after viewing this scene over and over again I decided that he looks a little turned on. But its one of those scenes that I will forever question, until the day the actor himself tells us exactly what he was trying to get across here.
